Be sure to RSVP on the event for our next meeting.

September 2012 Bay Area Jive User Group Meeting - Sept. 13

Some highlights. Thanks to LivePerson and David Gleason for hosting this month. LivePerson is located in the South Beach area of San Francisco, near AT&T Park.  But, since September 13 is not a game day there should not be gigantic crowds in the rea.

Tentative Agenda items include:

  • How LivePerson is using Jive
  • Gamification
  • Jive 6
  • Influencer Council update
  • Networking with your fellow Jive customers

I hope you'll join us.

Be sure to register July 2012 Bay Area User Group, which takes place in the afternoon at the HP Software site

I you have questions please contact ebschade

We look forward to seeing you!

We had a great turnout for the May 2012 meeting, hosted in SF thanks to Jive as part of their JiveLive tour. Here's a summary of the event.

photo.jpgWe started with introductions from the approximately 35-40 attendees. In addition to lubricating the networking opportunities by describing our roles and interests in Jive I also asked the participants if they were "Twitter people" or "Facebook people" - they couldn't like both sites equally. Here are the results:

  • Facebook 72%
  • Twitter 16%
  • Neither 9%
  • Google Plus 3% (there's always one rebel in the crowd)'

As a "Twitter person" this result makes me sad.   But, definitely some interesting perspective from the attendees.

Next, Jive's olivia.teich gave us a great update on what's new with Jive, with particular emphasis on both new as well as upgraded features of Jive 6. This was a very well-done presentation with just the right amount of detail. Lots of exciting stuff!

Then SAP's scottlawley gave us an update on how SAP is using Jive. Scott previously spoke at the July 2011 Bay Area User Group Meeting about their plans to upgrade their SAP Community Network. The SCN features of number of enhancements to the base Jive platform and Scott talked about some of major components of his team's work, including taxonomy alignment, customized SAP-branded navigation, a custom point template engine, extensions to the user profile, and more. Scott also provided a demo of the site.

Scott's key takeaways were:

  • People: Get the right people involved and be a team
  • Budget: Make sure the project is properly funded. Make good decisions; don't skimp
  • Time: Set realistic goals. Be ready to extend beyond your intended launch date

After a short break, I led some roundtable discussions around big topics such as upgrading your Jive instance, how to roll out an upgrade or a new awareness campaign, and how to keep your users engaged. There were lots of questions and plenty of advice from people who've done it.

We ended the event with cocktail reception sponsored by our friends at Jive.

Be sure to register for this event, which takes place in the afternoon after Jive's JiveLive Tour that morning.  I am reaching out to some people but if you are interested in participating as a customer speaker please contact Kevin Crossman directly.

We look forward to seeing you!

Great session at NetApp yesterday, with about 25 people in attendance. This is a nice increase in attendance, so thanks to everyone for taking some time out from your busy schedules.

This month, we were hosted at NetApp in Sunnyvale. We started the meeting with a great presentation from Shubha Kumble (internal community manager) and Ian Wikramanayake (external community manager), along with John Summers who leads the overall infrastructure efforts with NetApp's use of Jive. They spoke about the process for upgrading their internal and external communities simultaneously, including how they approached pre-launch promotion, awareness and training, and addressing post-launch issues.  They even shared some physical promo items for their internal community.

NetApp indicated that after the relaunch of their communities on Jive 5 they are seeing that page views are up, return visitors are up, and the bounce rate is down. Overall, it sounds like NetApp is very happy with how their upgrade experience went.

After a short break for some NetApp-provided cupcakes and snacks, we reconvened and had a lively round-table discussion. Key topics included internal promotion/awareness campaigns and how external communities deal with spam.

For those interested in hosting in February, please leave a comment in the community.

Other Topics:

If there are other topics you're interested in discuss during the meeting / breakouts then please note them in the comments and we'll see if a few items come out that we can hard-align to the agenda. As with all of our sessions there is always open-discussion / networking time to discuss any topic with the other attendees.

Note that due to an unexpected conflict with our host, NetApp, this meeting will now take place on December 8th. Apologies if the revised date is unfeasible for your schedule, or if it would prevent attendance.

This time won't be perfect for everyone but looking at the schedule and based on the feedback here in this community I think this is as good a time as any for a meet-up for those JiveWorld attendees from the Bay Area. This looks like a good location for an "ad-hoc" get together, conveniently located in the conference hotel.

Come join us to talk about what you're doing with Jive, what to expect from the conference, or even to meet socially with your friends from the Jive community.
