Overview

The following table shows events captured within Cloud Analytics, along with all possible Jive object(s) that can receive those events. We classify events by Engagement activity and Participation tier. We use these classifications to build the Participation Ladder, Engagement Ladder, and Engagement Index charts you see in Jive Community Analytics, which can be accessed via the "Community Analytics" link in the profile menu.

To learn more about extracting data from your community, see Using the Jive Data Export Service.  The activity naming standard in the data export service (DES) for the Action column uses the following standard:

Activity_{Event}_{Jive Object}

The {Event} is the event that transpired in the community and the {Jive Object} is the object on which the event was transpired on. (For hosted and on-premise customers: This paradigm only applies to Jive versions 7.0.3.1 and higher.) For e.g. the act of viewing a document would be ACTIVITY_VIEW_DOCUMENT .

Note: The colors in the table highlight the 3 possible participation tiers. The highlighted activities determine the engagement index and active users.

About the Table

  • The table captures all the content activity events that are related to the Engagement Index, Engagement Index by User type, Participation ladder and Engagement ladder charts.
  • This table will be updated to reflect any changes to event classifications.

Definitions

  • Events: Activities that transpire on the Jive Community (as related to the Participation ladder and Engagement ladder).
  • Object: Receive the action of an event. For example, when a user creates a document, the event is "Create" and the Object is "Document'.

Active user

  • If a user transpires any of the activities listed above in a given time period then the user is considered an active user in that time period.
  • If a user logs into a Jive community, the user is considered an active user and Login activity is counted as a consumer in the Participation ladder and the logins events are not counted as an Engagement activity in the engagement ladder.

Engagement Index

  • The sum of all the events above constitutes the total number of engagement activities. The engagement index is then defined as the Total number of engagement activities divided by the total active user.

Participation Tier

  • The activities categorized in the Participation tier identify the type of user: Contributor, Participant or Consumer. If a user is classified as a Contributor, the person can't be a Participant or Consumer. If a user is classified as Participant, then the user can't be a Consumer.  For example, if a person engages in the act of creating an document then the person is classified as a contributor. The person can engage in other participation activities, but since he engaged in contributor activities, he is categorized as a contributor.
  • Categorization is presented in the Participation ladder.
  • The sum of all the users in the Participation ladder is the total active users for a given time period.

Engagement Tier

  • The different engagement activities are aggregated and displayed as different categories in the Engagement ladder.
